Abstract

This article describes the orthodontic treatment of an adult female patient having a malocclusion with an extensive hemangioma in the orofacial region. The patient presented with hypertrophy of the jawbone caused by a hemangioma and a Class II incisor relationship and spaced upper arch. We undertook fixed orthodontic treatment paying careful attention to the oral vascular malformations. The active treatment period was 18 months. The patient has maintained a good occlusion over the 2 years and 7 months following the completion of active treatment. Although no plastic surgery has been performed, we have shown that it is possible to satisfy the demands of oral care management, esthetics and function by incorporating orthodontic treatment in the management of patients having a malocclusion caused by hemangioma.
