Abstract
Document EPOS (2007) introduces a division of sinusitis into two types: acute - symptoms last for 12 weeks and chronic - symptoms last more than 12 weeks. Treatment of acute sinusitis is symptomatic. In contrast, treatment of chronic sinusitis is associated initially conservative, in the absence of improvement the surgical treatment. Surgical treatment has changed over last years from radical techniques from external approach to saving techniques. Introduced functional endoscopic sinus surgery was a milestone in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. Use of new tools such as shaver, stents, balloons or hydrodebrider allow for safe and efficient removal of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses.
