Middle fossa approach offers possibility to resect vestibular schwannomas with hearing preservation. In case of translabyrinthine approach the hearing becomes permanently damaged due to the surgical technique. The risk of deterioration of facial nerve function correlates with the size of the tumor (larger the tumor bigger the risk), however, there is no correlation when it comes to surgical approach (Mf or TL).
