ResumoA crescente utilização de instrumentos musicais desde a infância pode conduzir a situações clínicas para as quais os profissionais médicos de saúde oral devem estar particularmente atentos, no sentido de prevenir e minimizar sequelas dessa utilização. O desenvolvimento de patologia associada à utilização de instrumentos musicais pode conferir limitação temporária ou permanente, justificando a importância de incluir de forma válida a condição das estruturas orais no âmbito das atividades da saúde ocupacional.Como objetivo deste trabalho de revisão pretende-se abordar, genericamente, as características dos instrumentos musicais que podem afetar as estruturas orais ou periorais e respetivas manifestações clínicas.Procedeu-se a uma revisão da literatura, recorrendo às bases de dados Medline, Scielo, Embase e SciVers, bem como à pesquisa manual em bibliotecas universitárias e de escolas de música em Portugal, Espanha e Reino Unido. Igualmente, adotou-se a pesquisa ativa com base nas referências utilizadas nas diversas publicações encontradas.
The increasing use of musical instruments since childhood, can lead to clinical conditions for which medical professionals oral health should pay particular attention in order to prevent and minimize consequences of such use. The development of pathology associated with the use of musical instruments can provide temporary or permanent limitations, justifying the importance of including valid form of the condition of the oral structures in the activities of occupational health.Aim of this review paper is intended to address generally, the characteristics of musical instruments that can affect the oral or perioral structures and their clinical manifestations.The authors conducted a literature review using the Medline, Scielo, Embase and SciVers, as well as the manual search in university libraries and in music schools in Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom. Also adopted an active research based on the references used in the various publications found.
