Abstract
Steroids are currently administered to a majority of kidney transplant recipients. In view of the adverse side-effects profile, strategies aimed at minimizing or avoiding these agents are increasingly being used. The current data supports short and intermediate term safety of such protocols; however the long term safety in terms of graft survival is still needs to be seen. It will be prudent to limit steroid minimization to patients at relatively low immunological risks.
