Abstract

Urethral strictures was always a challenging disease for the urologist and fight to find a ideal and perfect operation is still not over. However in last 20 years newer concepts have evolved which has vastly improved the outcome. End to end urethroplasty and buccal mucosal substitution urethroplasty have become more common operation. Optical urethrotomy role has been redefined and restricted to soft and short strictures. Onlay flaps became more popular than tubes. Even though still there are many reconstructive procedures performed but clear guidelines are emerging for fewer, simpler and better procedures.
