The field of Urogynaecology (a subspecialty within Obstetrics and Gynaecology) is dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders such as urinary or fecal incontinence and prolapse.Continence problems cause significant disability, distress and social isolation. The management of female bladder dysfunction often requires the input of many healthcare professionals, making the process daunting for women and their doctors.Expectations for a high quality of life, have led to greater public awareness and help seeking behaviour among women in developed countries, but these social albeit health issues remain poorly addressed in our country. However, the importance of urogynaecology is being realized and proper treatment options are being provided to women with related problems especially urinary incontinence.
