Abstract

Chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, is a severe, incapacitating fatigue lasting for six months or more, that is not improved by bed rest and that may be exacerbated by physical or mental activity. It is an all-encompassing fatigue that results in a dramatic decline in both activity level and stamina. This syndrome is not new and has a long history. CFS is diagnosed on the basis of symptoms. Although pathalophysiological abnormalities exist across many domain, but several lines of research suggest that it may be distinct from psychiatric disorder. The nature of the symptoms, however, can help clinicians differentiate CFS from other illnesses. Center of Diagnosis has developed diagnostic criteria as based upon symptoms & exclusion of other illness. Treatment of CFS is sympom based and include pharmacological, cognitive and behavioral therapy, with lifestyle exercise and lifestyle management therefore the assesment and treatment of CFS should be multidirectional and taliored to the need of patients.
