Abstract
Each year approximately 10 million or more newborns worldwide need resuscitation and birth asphyxia accounts for more than 1 million deaths annually. Resuscitation is geared towards avoiding the adverse sequealae of birth asphyxia. Over the past decade neonatal resuscitation programme has evolved to an organized programme; a consensus opinion based on evidence-based medicine has been published and this has been accepted as a standard guideline.
