Abstract

The word adolescent come from Latin word, adolescere, meaning “To grow up”. Adolescence is the phase of transition from childhood to maturity. It spreads over 10 years from 10 to 19 years of age. Menarche is an important event during adolescence.Abnormal and irregular bleeding is a common problem in the adolescent period due to slow maturation of hypothalamic pituitary-ovarian axis and can last for 2–5 years after menarche. The etiology can be variable, ranging from normal reproductive development to abnormal bleeding disorder or an organic pathology in the pelvis or manifestation of a systemic disease. In this article the various causes, lab diagnosis are covered generally with treatment options for dysfunctional uterine bleeding in specific. The problem of dysfunctional bleeding in adolescents can be quite challenging to control the moderate to severe haemorrhage, as options are limited.
