Abstract
The effect of a particular drug on the developing fetus depends on several factors, including the type of agent and the gestational age at which it was taken. “Many drugs are prescribed during pregnancy for the benefit of the mother and at the same time one has to keep in mind the innocent unborn fetus or fetuses. No drug should be given to a pregnant woman unless the expected benefit to her is thought to be greater than the risk to the fetus. The drug effects may be irreversible and in apparent for several months or years.Mostly the drugs are prescribed before the woman misses the period. Thus drugs should be used sparingly in all women during childbearing age and one should find out whether she is using any contraceptive measures.
