Abstract
Doctors are frequently asked by their patients or by judicial requisition to write and deliver initial medical certificates with possibly the determination of total work incapacity (TWI). This is a comprehensive observation of the injuries found. The writing of such certificates commits the practitioner's criminal, civil and ethical responsibilities. The document can then be used for judicial purposes and can direct action against alleged violence perpetrators. It is necessary to learn to evaluate TWI in order to write quality descriptive certificates and to determinate justified TWI.
