Abstract
This hypothesis has been consolidated with the study of the genes that code TNF-α, TNF-α receptor-2, interleukin 6, CD14 receptor, mannose-binding lectin, bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI), and lactoferrin. The circulating concentrations of the proteins that are coded by these genes are also associated with different components of metabolic syndrome.
