Abstract
The obesity epidemic also concerns the African continent also. The origin of the problem is multifactorial and complex. It is not only related to the increasing urbanization that promotes sedentary life styles or the nutritional transition. There seems to be environmental factors and mental representations that promote obesity in a context of possible genetic predisposition. However, efforts have been made to slow down this epidemic, and we begin to see more and more people concerned about their weight. It is important to continue to study the problem of obesity in Africa to understand the etiology to help guide future public health strategies.
