Abstract
Algeria is experiencing an epidemiological transition characterized by an aging of the population. In this paper we present the first Algerian survey on diabetes in the elderly, conducted in 2012 in Sidi Bel-Abbes (Algeria). The survey dealt with 393 subjects aged 65, and older subjects living at home. It has allowed the estimation of the prevalence of diabetes to 26.7±0.01%, essentially type 2 diabetes. This study also identified the cardiovascular risk factors and geriatric syndromes associated with diabetes.
