Abstract
The New European recommendations require the use of safety needles for insulin pens and this appears to provide a major improvement to nurses, protecting them from NI and preventing the complications of NI. Although use of these needles changes practice and requires special training, they improve safety in the steps following the injection, which prevent the viral complications of NI.
