Abstract
The need for insulin in elderly diabetic subjects is frequent and often feared. The objectives are to improve glycemic control while minimizing the risk of hypoglycemia and maintaining quality of life. Therefore, the prescribed treatment must be tailored to their health, with appropriated administration schedule and type of insulin. As shown by numerous studies, slow-acting insulin analogs meet these requirements, and are becoming increasingly important in the treatment of elderly diabetic patients.
