Abstract
How to explain that psychological insulin résistance - the resistance to the idea of starting insulin therapy - is observed both in patients and doctors? The aim of this article is to show that the mental mechanisms involved in this phenomenon are common to the two protagonists of care: these are the very mechanisms of any human decision. This investigation devoted specifically to psychological insulin resistance is more generally relevant to the two phenomena of patients'nonadherence and of doctors'clinical inertia, of whom it represents a paradigmatic case.
