Abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has become a chronic disease. As in other chronic diseases, people become fragile by the duration and the necessity to be linked to care (follow-up and taking treatments on the long term). But during HIV infection, there are additional features related to the transmissible nature of the infection and the possible emergence of resistant viruses in case of poor adherence to treatment, with its individual and collective health consequences. Thus, the psychological and social impact of HIV infection makes of it an illness “like no other”. Therapeutic patient education here finds its place, in a multidisciplinary approach, which takes into account all dimensions of the person affected by the disease, so that he could find again or improve his quality of life.
