Abstract
Ultimate evolutionary stage of respiratory diseases, chronic respiratory failure benefits of technological innovations which have improved significantly its prognosis. Paradoxically, Public Health data continues to be worrisome (third cause of general mortality; first cause of preventable death); moreover support for COPD patients is not optimum. Various publications have demonstrated the effectiveness of therapeutic patient education -particularly when associated with pulmonary rehabilitation- in improving the quality of life and use of care resources. The current partitioning of the health system as its funding actually prevents an effective integration of patient education in their routine care.
