Abstract
This study compared the characteristics of obese patients followed in two different systems: inpatients from an aftercare institution (Unité médicalisée de l'obésité, UMO) and outpatients from a local health network (ROMDES health network). The patients (966 inpatients and 857 outpatients) mainly suffer of severe obesity (mean BMI ≥35.0 kg/m²); most of them (>80%) being women. The two main discriminating factors are severe obesity and the note on eating behavior. Males, so as females, admitted in the UMO department report a higher number of between-meal food intakes than patients followed by the ROMDES network program. Initial hospitalization of those patients may be useful in cases of severe obesity with eating disorders.
