Abstract
The adventure of clinical chemistry started less than three centuries ago, thanks to the studies of famous chemists such as Antoine Lavoisier. The presence of sugar was first detected in urine by a gustative analysis while blood sugar was for a long time misunderstood. The sifting of test solutions reacting on reductor sugars like the Barreswill's blue liquor or the Fehling's liquor permitted a quantitative sugar analysis in blood and in urine and gave a new impulse to the diabetes mellitus knowledge. However, the mastership of enzymatic's methods of dosage only permitted a specific and valuable glucose determination. This process will be used in favor of non-intrusive methods leading to self-monitoring and later to self-control of blood glucose with the aim of optimizing diabetes' treatment.
