Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy is the most specific microangiopathy related to diabetes. Furthermore, hypertension is frequently associated with diabetes. The impact of hypertension on large vessels is well known, but it has a deleterious effect on retinopathy and diabetic maculopathy also. We describe the characteristics of this hypertension in subjects with type 1 diabetes compared to type 2 diabetes and its effect on retinopathy. Blood pressure control is part of a comprehensive care to slow the onset and progression of diabetic retinopathy.
