Abstract
It is not possible to separate self testing and therapeutical action. This is why SMBG prescription should not be systematic for type 2 diabetic patients, but individualised. Taking into account the increasing cost of SMBG, reimbursement of reflectance meters and strips should be restricted according treatment steps. Routine monitoring without any help to patient and clinician must be stopped.
