Abstract
In the elderly population, due to changes in age-related body composition, reducing energy requirement and expenditure, the goal of weight management differs from the young adults. Maintenance of weight or interventions that minimizes muscle and bone losses rather than aggressive weight loss would be preferred to achieve a functional and good quality of life. Individualized recommendations with a special focus on physical activity should be considered taking into account medical problem(s), functional status and living environment.
