Abstract
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection affects millions of people all over the world. There has been an enormous improvement of the medical care of these patients, in part thanks to the Highly Active AntiRetroviral Therapy (HAART) study, leading to a greater life expectancy. Nevertheless, these patients have developed metabolic abnormalities that become true cardiovascular risk factors, and increase mortality. Therefore, we should look at those patients differently and have as a priority the assessment of their cardiovascular risk factors and their treatment.
