Abstract
Despite all the data that were published during the last decades, increased consumption of n-3Â fatty acids does not appear as a panacea against coronary diseases and higher consumptions are not necessarily better. By contrast, moderate intakes of n-3Â fatty acids can be helpful to potentiate the other dietary measures and pharmaceutical treatment aimed at preventing CVD. As a consequence, the famous Aristoteles's aphorism: “the whole is more than the sum of its parts” is still valid and can be applied to n-3Â fatty acids when used as add-on therapies for treating cardiovascular diseases.
