Abstract
Dental plaque is the caries' etiologic factor and sugar is an external factor. Acids produced by sugar metabolism on the effects of dental plaque cariogenic bacteria induced the dental calcified tissue demineralization. Sugars directly contribute to cariogenic dental plaque development in favouring bacteria co-aggregation. The frequency of sugar ingestion is a greater determinant for caries development than type or quantities of consumed sugars.
