Abstract
As a result of a law passed in 2009, therapeutic education is now integrated within the legal code of healthcare. The law details the future development specifications of therapeutic education. In the future, professional healthcare teams who wish to engage in therapeutic education will be required to develop a detailed program specifying their objectives, the targeted population, the practical modalities of the program, its educational content, the role and competence of the healthcare professionals involved, and the mode of evaluation effectively used. These programs will also need to be ratified by regional healthcare agencies. While the new law may serve to define a working framework for therapeutic education, it is now the responsibility of the authorities to define national guidelines, particularly in terms of priorities. Regional healthcare agencies are required to identify the needs of local populations based on specific regional public healthcare programs. The key issue that remains to be solved is the level of funding granted to therapeutic education programs
