Abstract
Functional insulin therapy is a demanding treatment for the patient, requiring a good knowledge of the disease and carbohydrate content of meals, associated with capacity of self-management. The patient should be concerned with an optimal glycemic control to avoid future complications. Deprivation can distort the perception of future. Whenever, we should proposed intensified therapy especially to these patients, because it allows greater freedom in daily life, facing changing meals, or activities. Treatment could help them to avoid hypoglycemia by lack of food, or hyperglycemia crises.
