Abstract
Anal fistulas need surgical treatment to be cured. Fistulotomy is the gold standard but it carries a risk of incontinence. New techniques reach the goal to spare the sphincter as the rectal advancement flap, biologic glue or plug. Otherwise, success rates are lower. The LIFT is a novel technique. The aim is to ligature and cut the fistula tract into the intersphincteric plane. Several studies show a success rate from 70 to 95% and anal continence was not disturbed. Other techniques such as endoanal clip or autologous stem cells have already not enough documentation.
