Abstract
Ileostomy is the most common diverting surgical procedure for colorectal diseases. Several advantages compared to colostomy are reported. Complications are frequent and an adequate surgical technique is mandatory to prevent them. Early and long term follow up is needed since many complications may occur late after surgery. Also, a deep knowledge of the possible complications is necessary to an early recognition in order to reduce the related morbidity and to improve the acceptance of the stoma.
