Abstract
Abdominal surgery produces a wide variety of physiologic effects. This article provides a brief review of the plasma protein alterations directly associated with abdominal surgery. Both animal and human data are summarized and the underlying basic science is reviewed. In addition, potential novel therapeutics are introduced.
