Abstract
Most elderly people experiencing physical or intellectual dependence appeal for help, but certain people, although still independent, behave as if they were dependent. They ask for the support of a person close and demand that person's presence by all possible means. These help-seeking behaviours, which can generate serious disturbances, exhaust the person's close circle. A group of practising and academic psychologists and students undertook research to apprehend the origins and the consequences of this emotional dependence, on the basis of interviews performed in institutional settings.
