Abstract
This article focuses on the question of the nature of the perceptions and experience of Alzheimer's disease or related conditions for the patients themselves. To try to provide an answer, at least in part, we based this work on a study by INPES (2009), on direct testimonies from patients and on clinical experience. We will discuss the themes of awareness of the disease, the way in which others and society perceive it, and also the will and fighting spirit necessary for a person to preserve his or her personal identity, to retain a sense of continuity of existence and not to be reduced to a mere pathology.
