Abstract
The care of psychiatric disorders in elderly patients requires particular competencies linked to their clinical and outcome specificities. It also requires a good working relationship between physicians and nurses. The different healthcare professionals involved need to have their place in the care coordination team so as to ensure coherence, synergy and continuity in the care provided. In this approach, the nurse has a key role in personalised care planning. Data collection is a major component, enabling assessment of the elderly patient's particularities and life history, in order to adapt this personalised care to the needs and expectations of the patient. The nurse's role is also to help the patient to comprehend the aims of the care plan, and improve compliance and participation.
