Abstract
The clinical practice of hypochondria underlines the narrow links between psyche and soma. Hypochondria of ageing joins in a mental process supported by an economic prospect that the particular discourse about the “sick” organ reveals. The aim of this study is to show that: the hypochondriac complaint corresponds to a subversive attempt of a subject in the grip of the process of senescence; it is a matter of a subjective dead end. We will show, with a case study, that the emotional exhibition and the speech about the sick organ represent an avoidance of depressive suffering. Hypochondria, taken as a subjective dead end, hence appears as an impossible solution.
