Abstract
Initiating antiviral drugs within the first 72Â hours of the rash onset is necessary in order to reduce both acute neuralgia severity and late complication incidence. The antalgic and preventive effects in postherpetic neuralgia occurrence is however modest. Some therapeutic recommendations have been published focusing on analgesic treatments however they should be considered cautiously in older, frail, comorbid and often polyymedicated patients.
