Abstract
Idiopathic basal ganglia calcifications, also called Fahr's disease, corresponds anatomically to calcium accumulation in various areas of the brain. It can be associated with a neurodegeneration. It is a rare disease, because less than 200 cases have been reported in the literature. The disease can appear in familial or sporadic forms. Diagnosis is based on the discovery of calcifications in the cerebral imaging and the elimination of the secondary forms of intracerebral calcifications, also called Fahr's syndrome. Treatment relies mainly on the management of the symptoms accompanying the evolution of the disease. We present a case report of Fahr's disease concerning an old woman, presenting signs of anxiety and depression, besides cerebral degeneration.
