Abstract
Between protection and discrimination, the concept of age carries social, cultural and political representations that unavoidably influence the way to think about elderly mental care, including ideological stances. This article suggests some trails for reflection, analyzing paradoxes of age-based medicine and need-based medicine, both most often inadequately opposed or linked up regarding institutional stakes.
