Abstract
Protein-energy malnutrition results from an imbalance between intake and body requirements. Enteral nutrition support is indicated if oral nutritional support fails or is impossible. It is a medical prescription with specific indications, non-indications and complications. Initiation and withdrawal of enteral nutrition need a benefit-risk balance evaluation. Follow-up and regular reevaluations of tube-feeding efficiency and tolerance are required. We have established protocols in order to improve global management of elderly subjects with enteral nutrition.
