Abstract
When only considering our recent history, in the space of one century as a result of the decline in mortality, our life expectancy has almost doubled. Although it has been clearly demonstrated that citizens of the European Union, and developed countries in general, have never lived as long as today, it nevertheless appears difficult to estimate to what extent this increase in life span represents a benefit in quality of life. Through this article, we want to show that the measurement of the health status of a population is a broad concept that goes beyond the mere presence or absence of disease. Furthermore, we will show that we do not dispose of the data that allow us to quantify systematically the health status, so as to give full scope to the concept by including statistical data on the quality of life, and this beyond the concepts of life expectancy, morbidity, premature mortality and disability.
