Abstract
Elderly patients are characterized by a situation of multiple pathologies and polypharmacy. The risk of non-compliance is important, coupled with medical and economic consequences. The current goal of pharmaceutical research is to develop effective therapies at optimal doses, while reducing the risk of side effects and improving quality of life of patients and caregivers. The transdermal patches meet these requirements and are an attractive alternative to oral, subcutaneous or particularly intravenous treatment in elderly patients. The risks and frequency of skin intolerance can be minimized by respecting the recommendations. The simplicity of this device must not disregard the respect of contra-indications inherent to any active molecule.
