Abstract
Personal, social and economic burden due to cognitive disorders and dementia is extremely important. Consequently, the implementation of strategies for dementia prevention and treatment is indispensible. Available medication has shown modest or no efficiency in dementia prevention. A number of ongoing studies aim to test new pharmacological treatments in this context. On the other hand, studies suggest a beneficial effect of physical activity for the prevention of cognitive disorders in elderly patients. In this article we review present data on the effect of physical activity on cerebral aging, as well as its potential for dementia prevention in older patients.
