Abstract
The number of old people in industrialized countries is growing. Ageing is associated with an increased incidence of cancer and a progressive decline in the functional reserve of many organ systems. Comorbidity and polymedication can also affect cancer treatment. As old people are often excluded from clinical studies, there is a lack of data about the tolerability of chemotherapy. This article aims to review the currently available recommendations about prevention of renal and cardiac toxicity in elderly cancer patients that are going through chemotherapy.
