Abstract
In the elderly population, dental caries are becoming more prevalent; it is necessary to develop preventive methods which will reduce the development of caries and which will subsequently reduce infections, abscesses, pain and the negative effects on the patients' quality of life. Fluoride varnish has been highly rated as a preventive measure. It is interesting to use it in this population for which care access is often difficult because of their pathologies. The application of fluoride varnish can be performed outside the dental office and even to people confined to bed. For maximum efficacy, it should be applied regularly, three or four times a year. This method is then indicated for bed-ridden patients.
