Abstract
This article is a continuation of research conducted on the marital trauma of Alzheimer's disease. After defining the scope of cumulative trauma and presenting some concepts essential in understanding the couple, we will study the traumatic reality of Alzheimer's disease. We will see how, during evolution of the disease, marital life will be undermined by a succession of micro-traumas and then we will present a type of defensive organization to minimize the disruption that beset the couple. Finally, we conclude on some determinants of the couples' ability to overcome the overwhelming upheaval, but also the importance of medical and psycho-social assistance for caregivers.
