Abstract
The depressive elderly in children's literature for 7-9Â years old readers are grandparents, great-grandparents or old neighbours. They are really depressed, with sadness and loss of interest; they suffer from loneliness, especially after widowhood and have sometimes suicidal ideas. These novels tell tender solicitude of the children and indifference of their parents. This literature suggests, by identification with the young hero, models and propositions to the readers confronted by same situations. It emphasizes the importance of solidarity toward elderly people of the family or of the neighbourhood and relationship between generations.
