Abstract
The neurological presentation at onset is similar to that of young adults, progression to disability is more rapid and a primary progressive course is more prevalent. Clinical characteristics, magnetic resonance imaging pattern of abnormalities, evoked potential studies and cerebrospinal fluid oligoclonal band analysis are of high diagnostic value in late-onset multiple sclerosis patients, but expertise in interpreting their results is of utmost importance. Rapid progression in late-onset multiple sclerosis underscores the need for early therapeutic management while taking into account the toxicity of certain medications.
