Abstract
Prospective memory or memory for future intentions, though little studied, is nevertheless of great importance since planning and executing complex intentions is peculiar to human beings. Several complex processes are involved in this aspect of memory that requires a considerable amount of cognitive resources. Thus, elderly people generally show reduced performance on prospective memory tasks. The aim of the present manuscript is to sum up the knowledge cumulated over the last 20 years about age-related prospective memory decline, and its cognitive and neural correlates.
